Professor Sam Oh, Chairman of iSchools, visited our institute

From February 25 to February 28, Professor Sam Gyun Oh, President of iSchools, visited our Institute at the invitation of Professor Zhang Bin, President of our institute, to carry out academic exchanges and discuss the development strategy of disciplines around the goal of "two-class" construction.
On February 27, Dr. Feng Huiling, the former executive vice president and first-class professor of library, information and archives management at Renmin University of China, met with Professor Sam Oh. Professor Feng Huiling thanked Professor Wu and the International Union of Information Schools for their valuable support in the process of internationalization of library, information and archives management disciplines in Renmin University of China. He also expressed his vision for development, the planning of key development directions of data science and digital humanities, and the iSchools country being demonstrated since Professor Sam Oh became Chairman of the International Union of Information Schools. The International Certification Scheme (iAI) expresses its high recognition and appreciation and willingness to provide support. She said that in the process of exploring the direction of discipline development, the Disciplinary Review Group of Library, Information and Archives Management was willing to engage in more fruitful dialogue and cooperation with the International Union of Information Academies.


Professor Sam Oh spoke highly of the internationalization strategy and achievements of the discipline of library, information and archives management of Renmin University of China. He thanked our Institute for its active efforts and important contributions since joining the League of International Information Schools in 2016. He sincerely invited Professor Feng Huiling, who has made important contributions in the field of digital humanities, to join the Digital Humanities Course Committee of the International Institute of Information Alliance as an advisory member. Professor Feng Huiling accepted it with pleasure. The two sides fully discussed and looked forward to the international development trend of the subject, and agreed to promote deeper cooperation and exchanges between the two sides. Professor Zhang Bin, Dean, Assistant Professor Wang Jian and Associate Professor Yan Hui attended the meeting.


On February 26, Professor Zhang Bin, Vice-President Liu Yue-man, Assistant Professor Wang Jian and Associate Professor Yan Hui held a discussion with Professor Sam Oh to discuss international cooperation and subject development.


On February 26, Professor Sam Oh gave an academic report entitled "Topic Map Ontological Modeling". Professor Wang Jian, assistant dean of our college, presided over the lecture. Nearly 100 teachers and students from the College, such as Professor Liu Yue-nan, Professor An Xiaomi, Associate Professor Yan Hui and Professor Zhu Zhenyuan, participated enthusiastically and discussed it warmly.
 

On February 27, Professor Sam Oh gave an academic report entitled "The Development Path of iSchools Data Science and Digital Humanities" to our teachers and students. Professor Zhang Bin, Dean, presided over the seminar. Professor Feng Huiling, the leader of the discipline of library, information and archives management, and more than 100 teachers and students of the college listened to the seminar.


Professor Sam Oh's visit will further promote the process of building a world-class library, information and archives management discipline in Renmin University of China, enhance the international influence of Renmin University of China, and strengthen the in-depth cooperation between the International Union of Information Schools and our institute.
