Professor Wang Jian with hear student delivered a presentation at the 2018 ICA annual conference.

The International Council on Archives Annual Conference was held in Yaounde, Cameroon on In Nov26-29 2018.The theme is Archives: Governance, Memory and Heritage. Prof. Jian (Jenny) Wang and her student Yatong Song, from the School of Information Resource Management in Renmin University of China, Memory of the World Knowledge Center Beijing, delivered a presentation entitled Developing a co-construction and sharing model for the world cultural heritage: A study of digitization

of Buddhist scripture in Dunhuang Library Cave. Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes is a unique world cultural heritage and Dunhuang Library Cave is an important part of the Mogao Grottoes. Once discovered, Dunhuang has attracted attention worldwide. The presentation aims at building co-construction and sharing model for the world cultural heritage like Buddhist scripture in Dunhuang Library Cave and try to answer: how to establish a cooperative sharing mechanism among countries and regions, how to apply archival theory into practice such as protection and utilization of world culture heritage, how to use metadata standards as a key point for construction and sharing of resources in various countries, and how to build a comprehensive distribution catalogue of Buddhist scriptures as an umbrella of Buddhist scripture in Dunhuang Library Cave. We hope that this study can cause awareness and more discussion, call for more international collaboration among archivist, historians, librarians and digital humanity researchers, and contribute more to the world heritage with the effort of

archives community.

At the end of her speechshe introduced one of the Memory of the World projectSuzhou Silk Archives to the audience.

                                             

 

Five workshops were held at the conference., including "Understanding Information Cultures in Africa", "Association Management and Netwroking among Professionals", "Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness Workshop", "Digital Records and Preservation Management in Underprivileged Organizations" and “Workshop on Archival Buildings”. Prof. Jian Wang and graduate student Yatong Song participated in the “Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness Seminar”. Yatong Song also participated in the seminar of newly-promoted archivists under the recommendation of Mr Normand Charbonneau, Vice Chairman of ICA.

 

During the conference, Prof. Jian Wang attended the general meeting of the ICA. She had extensive exchanges, and discussed the cooperation intentions of African universities with senior leaders such as the Chairman and Vice Chairman of ICA, as well as several directors of National Archives and famous university experts.
