From 26th to 30th October, the 3rd Digital Heritage Conference (DH2018) was held in San Francisco, USA. Prof. Huiling FENG from SIRM of RUC led 8 teachers, 4 doctoral students and 12 undergraduates to participate and introduce their research results.
Digital heritage 2018 Is one of the key event of the year in its field of research and expertise in the field of Culture and technology domains from computer science to cultural preservation, archaeology to art, architecture to archiving, museums to musicology, history to humanities, computer games to computer graphics, digital surveying to social science, libraries to language, and many more. The conference represents a unique opportunity to explore, discuss and debate the potentials and pitfalls of digital for culture with digital professionals, from educators to technologists, researchers to policy makers, executives to curators, artists to engineers, archivists to scientists, and more.
In Sep. 2018, a total of 12 papers written by teachers and students of our school were accepted by DH2018. There are 5 papers were accepted as IEEC conference papers (including 1 from Prof. FENG, 1 from Associate Professor Jihong LIANG, and completeted 1 with postgraduate student Yue ZHENG, another 2 from undergraduate students), 7 were accepted as the conference Posters (including 1 from Prof. Yongjun XU and his doctoral student Lulu Wang, another 6 from undergraduate students).
On the morning of the 27th, the "Digital Solutions for Heritage Archives & Collections" paper presentation was held at the Building E NPS Research Center. Prof. FENG and Lecturer Xiaoshuang JIA introduced them “Building Digital Memory for Historic Urban Heritage: The Beijing Memory Project Experience”. Firstly, Prof. FENG gave a brief introduction of Research Centre for Humanistic Beijing, then Lecturer JIA introduced the research content, support platform, team building and talent training of Humanistic Beijing Project in detail.

During the presentation of the paper “Oral Memory Construction for Ancient Villages in Digital Age: A Case Study in Shiquan Miao Village in Chongqing”, Zheng Yue, a master student, paid attention to the cultural heritage protection and rescue of memory of ancient villages.

On the afternoon of the 27th, Poster Presentations were held at the Festival Theater. Ph.D. student Lulu WANG introduced the "Ancient Painting Singing" project which was made by the National Palace Museum and Tencent. Master student Shengnan YAO discussed the preserving status and development direction of Chinese dialect based on field investigation.
Yangnan WEI, Jiahua LIN and Mingxue Gou’s “Beijing Fashion Change Study” designed an APP called “Pattern Collector”, which users can create their own patterns and share them with friends, to promote Chinese traditional costume culture. Yiyuan HU introduced the development ideas and processes of the game based on nursery rhymes in the "Beijing Nursery Rhyme" project. In the "Beijing Web Memory Project", two undergraduates, Jing SANG and Deqing TANG, demonstrated the method of combining modern technology with archives to dig deep into old photographs. Leiqian HAN and Mengyu WANG, members of " The former residences of celebrities in Beijing" project, used Blender and Blend4Web framework to present a digital virtualization and 3D interactive experience.

After the Poster Presentation, everyone stayed at the Festival Theater and listened to the wonderful report of Associate Professor Jihong Liang. Teacher Liang used digital technology to present the scenes of Confucius' rituals, vividly presenting the process of visualizing, visualizing, and artisticizing historical documents, and providing new ideas for the protection and inheritance of literature and culture.

On the morning of the 29th, the "Serious Game for Spring Festival Culture in Beijing" was presented at the Cowell Theater. As a student project team, Jiao WU, Dongyue Xue, and Yuke Zhao mainly focus on the classic Chinese elements of the Spring Festival culture, using lively and interesting game forms (role-playing games) to make more People feel the unique charm of Chinese culture.

After the closing of the conference, on October 30th, the SIRM teachers and students visited the Internet Archive, Stanford University, IBM Silicon Valley Lab, Google Center and Intel Museum.

The excellent performance of the SIRM teachers and students at the 3rd Digital Heritage Conference (DH2018) fully demonstrated the fruitful achievements of the college in the cultivation of talents in the construction of “world-class disciplines”.
