Professor Xiaobin Lu Attended the 2017 Annual Meeting of the iSchools Asia-Pacific Chapter

    The 2017 Annual Meeting of the iSchools Asia Pacific Chapter took place at Berkeley College of Education, The University of Hong Kong, with the theme of “The Survival of the fittest: How iProfessionals Survive and Prosper in a Fast-Changing and Data-Rich World ?” on December 7th, 2017. More than 50 faculty members and students representing iSchools members from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Germany and United Kingdom, as well as data enterprises, traditional enterprise data departments, libraries and information agencies in Hong Kong , the Department of Health and other relevant government departments attended the meeting.

    Professor Lu Xiaobin, the Associate Dean of School of Information Resource Management, attended the meeting on behalf of the iSchool at Renmin University of China, made a report on the progress of data science education in the iDeans’ Forum, and attended iDeans’ business meeting in the Asia Pacific region to participate in the presidential election mechanism in the Asia-Pacific Chapter discussions, election of the host of next annual meeting of the Asia Pacific Chapter, Asia Pacific branch academic exchange arrangements and other discussions.

    During the meeting, Professors Xiaobin Lu conducted friendly exchanges and initially explored the possibility of carrying out student exchange, academic exchange and cooperation with iSchools chair-elect, Sam Oh, Professor from Sungkyunkwan University; Professor Micheal Seadle, Executive Director of iSchools Alliance, Library and Information Science, University of Berlin, Germany; Professor Miguel Nunes, chair-elect of the iSchools Alliance Asia Pacific Chapter, Dean of School of Information Management, Sun Yat-sen University; George Buchanan, Director, Human-Computer Interaction Design Center, City University London, United Kingdom; Dr. Sally Jo Cunningham, director for iSchools Affairs, School of Computer and Mathematics, Waikato University, New Zealand; Dr. Sam Chu, former director of the Department of Informatics, the University of Hong Kong; and Professor Yijin Wu, Institute of Library and Information Science, Taiwan Normal University.
 
    Dr. Yan Hui, Associate Professor from iSchool @ RUC, attended the meeting and made an academic report on the development of community informatics in mainland China.

    The visit by Professor Xiaobin Lu and Dr. Hui Yan enhanced the dialogue and contacts with fraternal units in Asia-Pacific and Europe, and further expanded its influence in the Asia-Pacific region and the iSchools alliance.
