At the 2018 National Information Science Doctoral Academic Forum held on October 13-14, 2018, Zhixuan Xu, Ph.D. student majored in information analysis, Minghui Qian, associate professor of Ph.D., and Jiating Qian, a master student of SIRM@iSchool, jointly completed the academic paper “The Contribution of Public Library Construction to Regional Innovation Capability: Based on the Empirical Analysis of China's Provincial Panel Data from 2011 to 2015”, won the “Excellent Paper Award” and the paper was accepted by China Science and Technology Resources Guide. It is also the only award-winning research result of our university. The research was guided by the Associate Professor Minghui Qian , the doctoral tutor of Xu. Xu, on behalf of the research team, gave a paper presentation at the forum.

The National Information Science Doctoral Academic Forum is an annual high-level meeting in the field of Chinese information science. This forum is sponsored by the Information Management Department of Peking University, co-organized by the China Institute of Science and Technology Information and the Military Science Information Research Center of the Academy of Military Sciences, and is supported by many core journals of information science. The theme of this forum is: Information Science in the Intelligent Age: Connecting the Digital World and the Real Society. The forum aims to integrate relevant research more effectively, develop research fields of information science, and explore the development of the discipline of information science, so that it can better serve economic construction, management decision-making and social development. The forum will strive to build an open and international academic exchange platform, launch a number of innovative achievements with important theoretical and practical values, and improve the research and innovation capabilities of doctoral students. In addition to academic exchanges and expert comments, the conference also invited well-known scholars and industry experts in the field of information science at home and abroad to make special reports.
After a rigorous review, the forum collected nearly 100 high-quality papers from doctoral students in information science and other related disciplines. the conference invited experts from the country to form expert judges. The selection of the collected papers included 4 first prizes, 8 second prizes and 12 third prizes.
The award-winning papers, “The Contribution of Public Library Construction to Regional Innovation Capability: Based on the Empirical Analysis of China's Provincial Panel Data from 2011 to 2015”, in-depth studied of the impact of public libraries on the diffusion of knowledge in regional innovation systems. The mechanism, the corresponding theoretical model is constructed, and the empirical research is carried out by means of quantitative analysis. The research conclusions help the public libraries to play their knowledge support role in the regional innovation system and help public library to make their own management strategy.
