Oct 17, 2006, lecture on “Improving English Ability for Olympic Volunteers” was held in SIRM. This lecture was organized by the Youth League Committee and the Student Union of SIRM, co-organized by Orlando English Institute of Canada.

Cindy Xue, Vice-dean of Orlando English Institute of Canada, and James Nasser were invited to give the lecture. Cindy Xue is an expert on English teaching and training, who has been teaching English in China and Canada for more than 20 years. James Nasser was graduated from Columbia University who specialized in English teaching, and he has been teaching English many years and is also an expert in English teaching.

Most freshmen and sophomores attended this lecture. Cindy Xue gave an English speech to the students to know the English study situation of them and made them eager to study English. James Nasser gave students his opinions on the English study of Chinese students. He talked about the importance of studying English and provided methods of learning English. His humorous and vivid speech gained continuous applauses. Cindy Xue and James Nasser both had wonderful communicating activities with the students. The students talked about the problems in their English learning and the two experts gave useful answers. The atmosphere of the spot was wonderful.

After the lecture, the students made up their minds to study English even harder. It is an excellent, successful lecture and its positive effects were obvious: let students know more about the importance of learning English and reinforce their confidence of learning English.
