SIRM in RUC leading the TEAM China of InterPARES 3

Funded by SSHRC in July,2007 ,the famous international cooperation project InterPARES (The International Research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems) starts its third phase research, InterPARES 3 (IP3). Thirteen countries including China will take part in IP3 to test and further develop theories and solutions for the long-term preservation of digital records and to help various agencies build their own electronic records management system based on authentic records and to establish related regulations, guidelines, training patterns and so on.

Invited by Dr. Luciana Duranti, Director of InterPARES Project, Professor Huiling FENG, Vice President of RUC, Dean of SIRM was engaged as special consultant of Interpares team China and Prof. Jian WANG as the Director of IP3 Team China. On January 8-9, 2007, Prof. Jian WANG attended the January InterPARES 3 grant International Team Directors meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and had warm discussions with directors from Canada, US, Britain, Holland, Brazil, Mexico, China, South Korea and so on.

Prof. Jian WANG also attended the meeting of Team Canada to further understand the project objectives, goals, implementation and project management methods and characteristics, also to discuss related issues with the Canadian colleagues.

Participated by multiple international experts, findings of the previous two phases of InterPARES (www.interpares.org) integrated experience of many outstanding test-bed results and formulated a series of principles, guidelines, templates, models and functional requirements of electronic records management. According to the further objectives and goals, InterPARES 3 will engage in providing training materials and methods for participated institutions of universities, professional associations, training institutions, various kinds of users to better understand InterPARES research findings and its application into practice. These valuable research resources and findings will be available to the InterPARES3team members and collaborators and benefit the institutions and individuals involved in the project, also make great influence home and abroad.
