Information Visualization Communication Diversification —— Professor Zhang Jin from University of Wisconsin, Milwauke

In the afternoon June 2nd, the Visiting Professor of SIRM, Lifetime Professor of University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, Doctor Zhang Jin came to our school and gave a lecture on “the Challenge and Opportunity of Information Visualization”. Assistant Dean Zhang Bin chaired the meeting. Teachers and students from SIRM were quite interested in studying the theory and practice of the information visualization. The Information Recourses Management Platform development team members of Beijing Foreign Affair Office Information Center also came to attend the forum.


Professor Zhang Jin was accomplished in Information Retrieval, visualization research, digital library, image retrieval, and so on. He has published more than 40 papers. In 2006, Professor Zhang had came to our school and gave a lecture named “How to Publish the Academic Thesis in the eternal academic magazines”.

During this lecture, Professor Zhang introduced the conception of information visualization, the understanding of information and the characteristics and application prospect of information. He also pointed out that the information visualization is the development trend of information retrieval. The participants discussed a lot with the professor on their interested problems.

This lecture is the third one given by the professor from University of Wisconsin after Professor Dietmar Wolfram. After the lecture, Professor Zhang and the presidents of our school continued to discuss the future cooperation and communication between two schools. Secretary Ji Hongbo, Assistant Dean Zhang Bin, Professor Lu Xiaobin, Wang Jian attended the forum. The discussion was about the students exchange and cooperation in school running, and so on.
