On December 1st, 2007, “open new windows for service –construction of archives websites in China” forum was held by SIRM, RUC. Professor Feng Huiling, vice president of RUC, Fang Ming, Assistant Director of education and training center of the State Archives Administration, Fu Hua, Vice Editor-in-Chief of China archives newspaper, Deng Xiaojun, Vice Editor-in-Chief of China archives magazine, Jiang Zhimao, Deputy Director-General of Archives Administration of Beijing, Xu Guiqing, Deputy Director-General of Liaoning Provincial Archives Province, Huang Yuming, Deputy Director-General of Anhui Provincial Archives, Ma Changlin, Assistant Counsel of Archives Administration of Shanghai and more than 30 archives bureaus leaders and the websites constructors from Heilongjiang, Jilin, Hebei, Jiangsu, Qingdao, Dalian, the counties of Beijing (Xicheng, Fangshan, Yenking) and so on attended the forum.

Professor Zhao Guojun, dean of SIRM gave the welcome speech. Zhang Bin, associate dean of SIRM and Professor Wang Ying Wei presides over the forum.

Professor Feng Huiling explained the original intention and the significance of the archives website evaluation and hoped the evaluation system would be more perfect, so the website evaluation activity would impel the development of the archives websites of China.

Zhang Ning, director of archives website evaluation project, teacher of SIRM gave presentation on “from Facade to Gateway——Summary of Provincial archives Website Evaluation”, introduced the developing situation of Provincial archives Websites Evaluation, gave advice on the development of Provincial archives Websites.

Song Hong, from computer section of Archives Administration of Beijing, Ma Changlin, Assistant Counsel of Archives Administration of Shanghai, Xu Guiqing, Deputy Director-General of Liaoning Provincial Archives Province, Liu Xugang, information technology section of Qingdao city archives each introduced the construction history, the experiences, problems and the development plan of the archives websites of Archives Administration of Beijing, Archives Administration of Shanghai, Liaoning Provincial Archives Province and Qingdao city archives.

Xia Tian, teacher of SIRM gave presentation on “Archives Websites Construction Technology Searches” and introduced software and hardware environment of archives websites, homepage description language——HTML, dynamic website design, website function condition analysis and improvement.

Doctoral student Li Zefeng gave presentation on “Net Communication of Archives Website and the Application of Network Service Technology” and explained characteristics of the net communication of archives website and the application of network service technology at present, introduced RSS, the personalized service technology, the intelligent Push technology and the relative cases.

Doctoral student Ye Han gave presentation on “Learning from the Archives Websites Abroad” and introduced and analyzed the archives websites of US, Britain, Canada and Australia.

The attendants warmly discussed on the Chinese archives website construction evaluation guidelines, technical supports and so on. The attendants generally reflected that the archives website investigation and the evaluation promoted archives website construction of many provinces. This forum was extremely essential and timely. The archives website evaluation project of SIRM will go on in future.
