Founded in 1936, the Society of American Archivists is North America's oldest and largest national professional association dedicated to the needs and interests of archives and archivists. ARCHIVES*RECORDS 2018, the 2018 Joint Annual Meeting of the Council of State Archivists, the National Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators, and the Society of American Archivists, took place August 12–18 at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, DC.
Master student Chenyue Jiao, who guided by Prof. Xie, was invited to participate in the 82nd Annual Meeting of SAA. JIAO presented a poster “Archives Participation in Targeted Poverty Alleviation: Paper Documents, Digital Records and Big Data” to introduce the Targeted Poverty Alleviation Policy. The student team guided by Prof. XIE has received 4 invitations of SAA Annual Meeting since 2014. This fully reflects SAA make much account of the development of archival science in China, and also shows that teachers and students of our school pay close attention to and actively participate in the international frontier research of archival science.
The IFLA World Library and Information Congress is the international flagship professional and trade event for the library and information services sector. It brings together over 3,500 participants from more than 120 countries. It sets the international agenda for the profession and offers opportunities for networking and professional development to all delegates. The 84th World Library and Information Congress took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 24th – 30th August 2018. This year’s conference, August 24–30, drew 3,516 delegates from 112 countries to the bustling and diverse Malaysian capital. The congress theme, “Transform Libraries, Transform Societies,” includes the tagline “Reaching out to the hard to reach.” Many sessions and programs this year are emphasizing the role of libraries in national development. There are also strategies for increasing awareness of the value and impact of library services.
Ph.D student Siyi Li, who guided by Prof. Xie, was invited to participate in the 84th World Library and Information Congress and presented a poster “Freedom of Information and Information Management in China: an empirical study”. The study explores the relationship between Chinese government information disclosure and document management within the organization. Through the analysis of policy text data and empirical data, it systematically sorts out the status quo of government information disclosure and government information management. his topic has attracted the attention of researchers from Australia, Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, etc. Most researchers expressed interest and exchanged specific research content.
