On January 10th, the discussion forum of the Discipline Construction and Development of Information Science was held in the meeting room 209 of the school building. The meeting was organized by the School of IRM, eight information experts from Peking University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and other institutions were invited. Vice-president of Renmin University Feng Huiling, Dean of SIRM Zhao Guojun, Assistant dean of SIRM Lu Xiaobin, Professor Zhou Xiaoying, An Xiaomi, and Hou Weizhen also took part in the forum. Based on the general develop situation of Information Science in this university, experts diagnosed the existing problems and put forward some suggestions to guide the further development of the discipline.

 Vice-president of University Feng Huiling first addressed the meeting. She summarized the development of Information Science in Renmin University and fully confirmed the importance of Information Science in the whole knowledge hierarchy. She posted some suggestions on the developing direction of the discipline. She also pointed out that we should adapt from the experiences of other countries and create our own characteristic of the discipline at the same time.

Zhao Guojun, the Dean of the school reported the construction situation of Information Science in this university. He introduced the growth of this school, the study direction, the faculties, the construction of the lab, the international communication and cooperation situations. He also analyzed the problems exited in the development, such as the uncertain academic orientation, lack of major projects, and so on. At last he lay out the development planning and some important measures of Information Science.
 

The meeting lasted more than three hours. At the end of the forum, Professor Lu Xiaobin gave an abbreviated summary.
