Professor Michael Cohen of SI/ U-M Visited SIRM and Made a Presentation

On May 31th, 2006, Michael Cohen, Professor of School of Information,University of Michigan visited SIRM and made presentation on"Social Systems & Collections". He gave a brief introduction on "the Background on School of Information"and explained ideas of "information, collection, social system & information professional".He also gave a few examples of how the ideas develop during the course"Social Systems & Collections".The wonderful and interesting presentation gained warm round of applause.Teachers and students from SIRM thank Professor Michael for his stimulated presentation and discussed and communicated warmly with him on needed qualities of information professional, information collection. Professor Michael was very humorous and knew quite a lot of Chinese culture. He finished his presentation with Confucius’ saying"To study, and at times to put your learning into practice, is that not a joy " ?

Professor Wang Jian, assistant dean of SIRM chaired the presentation and invited Professor Michael to take photos as a memory in the statue of Confucius in RUC. Professor Michael said he was very happy to visit SIRM to make presentation and have China traditional dragon boat festival with teachers and students of SIRM. He welcomed Professor Wang Jian and other teachers of SIRM to visit SI of U-M again as visiting professor. Professor Michael congratulated student You Yuanqing, who successfully applied to study in SI of U-M and thanked SIRM for offering opportunity to communicate. Teachers and students of SIRM eagerly consulted Professor Michael on how to apply to study in US. Professor Michael offers many good advices and made praise as following: "The students in SIRM/RUC are warm-hearted and courteous, their English is quite well. We sincerely welcome more faculties and students from SIRM to visit or study in SI of U-M".
