Dr. Ben Alexander Visited iSchool@RUC

On June 27, 2017, a lecture entitled "The American Century Project" was successfully held in meeting hall of 301 of Information Building. The presenter was Dr. Ben Alexander, a famous archivist. Professor Bin Zhang, the Dean of School of Information Resource Management, Professor Jian Wang, the Assistant Dean, attended the lecture, Ms. Linqing Ma hosted the lecture.


Firstly, Professor Bin Zhang introduced Dr. Ben Alexander to the students and faculty members. Dr. Ben Alexander is a manuscript research expert and famous archivist from the New York Public Library. He ever taught at UCLA, Queen’s College and Stanford University, and currently is a visiting scholar in Harvard University. He mainly engages in digital humanities and digital memory research.
The lecture was entitled "Never before has a country been so hungry for information about itself: The American Century Project." In his lecture, Dr. Ben Alexander combined his work experiences in "American Memory" and other projects to explain the two major topics, definition and relationship of digital humanities and digital memory and the development of digital humanities in the United States. At the same time, he also expressed his wish of establishing a good relationship with the iSchool @ RUC.
In the Q&A session, Hengxin Wang, Yue Zeng, and other students shared their reflections on the lecture, digital memory and digital humanities. They also raised academic questions.
