In the morning of October 16, 2007, Associate professor Qingfu AN and Dan WANG led 21 students of 2005 grade archives class visited Beijing Men-Tou Gou Archives.
The visitors joined a symposium in the archives. After a simple introduction of the archives, ShANG Chief of local chronicle section introduced Men-Tou Gou’s name change, archives organization’s establishment and development, the nature, business scope, responsibility of the local chronicle section, the editing guidelines, process, method and the significance of local chronicle. During the introduction, the students all listened attentively, made notes earnestly, combined the specialized knowledge with which they heard, proposed constructive questions, and has carried on warm discussions on these questions with Section Chief ShANG and two teachers. By this symposium, the students not only understood the function of the archives and the local chronicle section, learned much specialized knowledge, like the nature and significance of local chronicle, the basic principle and process of local chronicle editing, but also became more proud of archives major.
After the symposium, visitors visited the special collection room and archives retrieval service room of the archives, then visited the history, photography and painting exhibition of Men-Tou Gou in the archives.
After the visit, the students generally reflected that the visit was good. In the return trip, the visitors launched warm discussion on the visit and the atmosphere was extremely active. The visitors indicated: they have learned much knowledge besides textbooks through this visit, deepened the understanding of the archives major and the archives work, discovered valuable question of archives major. The discussion and research on these questions benefited students on archival study and practice, enhanced students’ patriotic enthusiasm. The students hoped they would have more chances like this to learn from the archives practice organizations.
Finally, all members of 2005 grade archives class appreciated the supports of the school and the warm entertainment of the leaders and staff of Men-Tou Gou archives.
